The Office of Undergraduate Advising (OUA) welcomes you to Cal.

We are the Academic advisers in the College of Letters & Science (L&S), and we are here to help you through your four years at Cal - from now until your graduation. Come back to this site often in the coming months, and we will help walk you through everything you need to begin your academic career on the right foot.

Understanding Your Priorities for Academic Planning

Academic planning is a process that you will begin here and continue throughout your time at Berkeley. It is a process that involves many different factors - in addition to juggling major, L&S, and University requirements, you will also need to factor in other interests, skills, abilities - all of which will evolve and change over the next four years.

Freshman Priorities

If you're entering Cal as a freshman, you must complete Academic Orienteering, the L&S advising tutorial, before coming to your CalSO orientation. This tutorial will prepare you to make the most of your time with advisers during your up-coming orientation. After completing the tutorial you'll have created a list of possible courses to enroll in during your TeleBEARS enrollment session.

(Those not completing this tutorial will be at a disadvantage during orientations, which may result in a delay in registering for first semester classes.)

Transfer Priorities

If you're entering Cal as a junior transfer, you must complete TOOLS, the L&S advising tutorial for transfer students, before coming to your CalSO orientation. This tutorial will prepare you to make the most of your time with advisers during your upcoming orientation as well as introduce you to many campus resources for enrichment and support. After completing the tutorial you'll have created a list of possible courses to enroll in during your TeleBEARS enrollment session.

(Those not completing this tutorial will be at a disadvantage during orientations, which may result in a delay in registering for first semester classes.)
