Welcome to the College of Letters and Science!

The Office of Undergraduate Advising can help you make sure all degree requirements are complete, your academic plan is balanced and manageable, and you explore enrichment opportunities. To help with your transition to Berkeley, it is important that you participate in both online Academic Orientation and an academic advising session. Please follow this checklist to prepare for orientation.

Checklist:

  1. You will receive an email from the College of Letters & Science in late September about academic advising options.
    • Fall Program for Freshmen (FPF):
      FPF students should have attended CalSO already. If you have questions about schedule planning for Spring semester, attend the optional FPF Q&A Advising Session on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 3-4pm in Room 100 of the FPF Building (check your email in late September for details). You do not need to sign up to attend. All FPF students are welcome.

    • Global Edge participants:
      Global Edge participants should have attended CalSO already. If you have questions about schedule planning for Spring semester, you may schedule an individual telephone or Skype advising appointment with an L&S College Adviser at bHive.berkeley.edu.

    • All other January Start FRESHMEN:
      Sign up for an L&S Advising Session Webinar online OR an L&S Advising In-Person Workshop in order to get academic advising about schedule planning and course registration. Check your email in late September for details and to sign up. You will not be able to schedule an individual appointment with an L&S College Adviser until after you have attended an L&S Advising Session.

    • All other January Start TRANSFER STUDENTS:
      Contact your undergraduate major adviser to get academic advising about schedule planning and course registration.

  2. Complete the online Academic Orientation at bHive.berkeley.edu before your scheduled L&S Advising Session.

  3. Enroll in classes. Check your Phase 1 enrollment time online at Cal Central.
    • All January Start FRESHMEN:
      Look for an email from the College of Letters & Science in late October containing your personal Adviser Code to access Tele-BEARS and enroll in classes.
    • All January Start TRANSFER STUDENTS:
      Contact your undergraduate major adviser to obtain your personal Adviser Code to access Tele-BEARS and enroll in classes.

  4. Download the Earning Your Degree guide for students. This guide describes what it takes to graduate and how to plan your studies to make the post of your experience at Berkeley.
